Half their budget went to the interest on their loans: the king wants to fix that by raising taxes, he wants a better more effective tax system bc its outdated and people cheat the system. However he can"t because there"s so many nobles that would oppose him. Bread prices & riots: in the good times peasants would spend 50% of their money on just bread, they had a bad crop season, so bread prices continues to rise, so they"re was bread riots. Estates general to national assembly: it had been 175 years and there was no previous records so they had to start over.
