Document Summary

Chapter outline: corporate finance and the financial manager, forms of business organization, the goal of financial management, the agency problem and control of the corporation, financial markets and the corporation. Imagine that you were to start your own business. Corporate finance, broadly speaking, is the study of ways to answer these three questions. Financial management decisions: capital budgeting: the process of planning and managing a firm"s long-term investments. This involves a number of activities related to the firm"s receipt and disbursement of cash: how do we manage the day-to-day finances of the firm? (ex: cash in hand, sell on credit, pay suppliers) Forms of business organization: three major forms in the united states, sole proprietorship: a business owned by a single individual, partnership: a business formed by two or more individuals or entities. In a general partnership, all the partners share in gains or losses, and all have unlimited liability for all partnership debts, not just some particular share.
