The friar gave the advice to leonardo (hero"s father). A friar also gave advice to juliet in. Romeo and juliet, but the advice of the friar didn"t work in that story: claudio is quick to believe that hero cheated on him because he see"s it with his eyes. Saying that he is awed in wonder and his cousin is belied. At the beginning of the play benedict would have just walked off with the guys saying that women are all the same and that"s why he should forever be a bachelor: benedict is the beginning of hamlet. Which is him trying to prove what he knows. If claudio and hero got married the first time than they would have never had there relationship tested.
