CMST 2060 Chapter : Using Note Cards

To encourage extemporaneous speaking, you are required to speak off of note cards rather than sheets of paper. These cards need to be prepared in advance and should be used to practice your speech. After each speech, you will need to hand in your note cards along with your outline. The quality and helpfulness of the note cards will be a part of your final speech grade. The entire speech must fit on no more than three cards: write out direct quotes and sources. Remember that you must cite a specific number of sources in your actual speech, regardless of how many sources were used in the outline. Practice your speech with the cards so you are comfortable using them. You can hold them or place them in front of you, but be sure to not let them become a distraction by playing with them during your speech or by obscuring your face with your cards.
