Words represent things concepts ideas etc: triangle of meaning, reference-occurs in human mind. Represents thought and interpretation: referent- the actual thing. The thisness ex a chair, soul, liberty: symbol- an empty vessel that can fill up with any word. Whatever we use to bring about the referent. No word in this or any other world has any meaning. If words had meaning it would be impossible. The emotional orientation of words comes along with people.
