CMST 2010 Chapter : CMST 2010 Ch 10 Notes
Document Summary
Friendships are some of the most enduring relationships we have; are forged from commonalities in our life (ex: work at same job, share same religion) May terminate because the very thing that brought them together no longer exists remove the binding element and friendships may fade. Most common reasons for terminating a friendship: less affection, friend or self changed, no longer participate in activities or spend time together, increase in distance. Females more likely to terminate friendships due to a conflict situation; males more likely to terminate friendships as a result of fewer common interests. Proximity more a factor in dissolution of casual friendships; decreased affection more a factor for best friends. In friendships, rewards are how much fun you have with the person and the extent to which he/she is trustworthy, honest, sincere, helpful, and supportive. Costs are toxic behaviors, such as: how much a friend is demanding, controlling, depressing, self-absorbed, deceitful, and unfair.
