Document Summary

In outfield mice darker coats are more common, but on the florida gulf coast lighter colors are seen. This sets up the hypothesis that natural selection favors a match between light color in the coastal dune populations that live on white sand, and the dark coat color in inland populations that live in more vegetated environments. Oldfield mice are hunted visually by owls thus owls which due not blend in are easier targets. The most fit mice drastically change the population coat color. It is through adaptation that dinosaurs developed feathers for insulation, mate attraction, gliding flight, and other purposes other than powered flight, which would have raised the fitness of the dinosaur. In the environment adaptions can help serve against biotic and abiotic challenges in cactus sharp spines that detour herbivores and flowers that entice pollinators serve a biotic factors.
