BIOL 1002 Chapter : OUTLINE Chap22
Document Summary
The kingdom fungi consists of organisms that are eukaryotic and mainly multicellular. They are all heterotrophic (they get nutrients from organic molecules, so they have to absorb it) decomposers that obtain their food by absorption. They are on our limb of the family tree, and they are actually close to us, so there are some similarities. Most members of the kingdom fungi have several structural elements in common: Think about how all of these relate to one another! (first 4) Mycelium -is the feeding network of a fungus. (see fig 22-1 a) think of it. Almost like the roots of a tree it"s unseen and underground. This network may be very large but is usually underground or within the surface of a decaying organism. The mycelium is composed of a woven mesh of hyphae. Relationship= mycelium is the feeding element (roots) made up of hyphae.
