The first leader of the qin was qin shi huangdi, who established a centralized empire and put rest to centrifugal forces. But, the relations between center and the region or locality remained an ongoing troublesome issue throughout the empire and the republic. (1912- While qin shi tried to burn all books and literature, han dynasty began to rally around the ideas of confucius (kong fuzi/ late 5th cent). Civil service examination system: the han instituted this system with strong emphasis on testing mastery of confucianism. By the song dynasty (960-1279), the examination had become the jewel of the imperial government. It provided political, social, ideological, and officials and social elite. The exam was abolished in 1905, in early 20th cent. _also, during han dynasty there was an interaction between han chinese within the great. Wall. military campaigns in central asia brought the empire 6 mill square miles of new territory.
