Stressors are either tangible (test) or intangible (meeting girlfriend"s parents) Factors that influence whether response to stressor is positive or negative. Characteristics of the stressor: how traumatic, can it be controlled, are you prepared. Biological factors: age or gender, current health status. Past experiences or fears: things that have happened to you, consequences. Distress: negative stress that can have a negative effect on health. Common when under the influence, coping with illness, tired. Eustress: positive stress that presents opportunities for personal growth. Acute stress: short-term physiological response to an immediate perceived threat. Episodic acute stress: state of regularly reacting with wild, acute stress to various situations. Chronic stress: stress that is more long term and can negatively impact your health.
