Document Summary
Stress is the nonspeciic response of the body to any demand made upon it . One important feature of some deiniions is that stress can afect people in diferent ways. Some writer prefer the term burnout in connecion with the topic of stress. Burnout occus when there is a constant disjuncion between job demands and worker resources: one becomes less efecive as this gap widens. A second type of stress is distress. It is the strain that develops as a person becomes more and more engulfed in his or her occupaion role. Early invesigaions into stress demonstrated a physiological reacion to one"s percepions. These indings led to the recogniion that an organism under stress reacts in a very predictable way. This paterned response, called the general adaptaion syndrome (gas), consists of 3 stages. They are the alarm reacion, resistance, and exhausion stages.
