CJE-3065 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: White-Collar Crime, Criminal Stereotype Of African Americans, Arson
Document Summary
It has been said that you can tell a lot about how something is valued in a culture by the number of types or models it has been given. For instance, the automobile has many names; it has hundreds of makers and models. Given the perceived prevalence of and fear associated with black crime, perhaps it is not surprising that there are a plethora of labels for it. It is sometimes referred to as black offending, black on black crime, or black criminality. Our language of crime however, does not include terms such as white crime, white criminality or white on white crime. Although portraying crime in blackface is widespread within the media, social scientists who study crime also portray crime in varied hues of black. Contrary to popular belief, whites are arrested more than member of other racial groups.
