Helps to define clearly the aspects of personality for researchers: mcadams describes 3 parallel levels of personality structure & function. Karen hooker added 3 processes that act in tandem with mcadam"s proposal. Five-factor model: each covers a wide range. Dispositional traits are consistent in different contexts & can be compared in various groups: of a continuum representation high/low degrees of characteristics, usually, the first thing people think of when asked about personality. Personal concerns are made up of the things important to people: can be described in motivational/developmental/strategic terms. Life narrative consists of the aspect of personality pulling everything together. Integrative aspects that give a person an identity/sense of self. State processes work with dispositional traits: create short-term changes in emotions, mood, hunger, anxiety, etc. Personal concerns act in tandem with self-regulatory processes. Cognitive processes act with life narrative to create natural interaction that occurs between a storyteller. That they are based on comparisons of individuals.
