Document Summary

Neurons- specialized cells that receive and send out information throughout the brain (including sensory info and commands) Brain cells: 10% are neurons and 90% are glial cells. An important part of a cell is the cell body which is also called the soma. Cell body- contains organelles (parts of a cell that specialize in something) and cytoplasm (liquid: nucleus- largest orga(cid:374)elle, hold the (cid:272)ell"s dna, other organelles: create energy, form proteins, remove waste. There are 3 different types of neuron cells. Motor neurons- brings orders from the brain to the organs/muscles. Dendrites- branching part of the soma, receives signals from other neuron cells. Axons-tail that extends from the soma, send out signals: wrapped around by myelin sheaths. Terminals- also called end bulbs, branches out from the axon and contain neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters- chemicals released in order to communicate with other neurons in a chain, an organ, or a muscle.
