It allows us to think/ talk about the past, define the present, and speculate about the future. Dyadic/ interpersonal communication - 2 person interaction: can occur in person, over media channels, and social networks, dyadic - strictly between two people, interpersonal can involve 3 people and even small groups. Small group communication: majority of members can put pressure on the minority so they will conform, can be more creatuve, also depend on the kind of leader that leads them. Functions of communication communication satisfies our needs/ we spend a lot of time communicating with others. Social needs: satisfy needs such as pleasure attention, affection,inclusion,escape, communication as primary goal of human existence, human career drive for meeting social needs - defined by walter goldschmidt. Practical needs: communication skills - most sought after skill in employees. Communication is fluid not static: the way people react to what you say depends on relationship/interactions from the past.
