Document Summary
Learning: a relatively permanent change in potential behavior that results from experience. Change: most learning produces a lasting change in learners" behavior. This definition excludes changes in behavior that don"t result from experience. Potential behavior: change in behavior isn"t always reflected in performance; absence of observable behavior doesn"t mean learning hasn"t occurred, but change in behavior (under appropriate conditions) has to be observable to claim learning took place. Associative learning: learning by making an association between two stimulus events (pavlovian learning) or by learning an association between response and it"s consequences (operant conditioning) Pavlovian conditioning: learning that takes place when neural stimulus (cs) is paired with a stimulus that already produces a response - learning an association between two stimuli that causes change in behavior. Contributes to your emotional states (fear, desire, need, anticipation etc). Response to cs is called conditioned response. Operant conditioning: learning an association between one"s behavior and its consequences (reinforcement or punishment).
