On mars, some of the outgassed water vapor molecules was lost ater solar ultraviolet light broke the molecules apart and the rest froze in the polar caps. On venus, it is too hot for water vapor to condense so all the molecules were broken apart and escaped to space. Earth retained its outgassed water because temps were low enough for eater to condense into rain and form oceans. We have a litle bit of co2 in the atmosphere because it dissolved in the ocean ater being outgassed by volcanism. 60 imes as much co2 in dissolved in the ocean as is present in the air. 3rd most common gas released by outgassing ater water and co2. Since most of our water ended up in oceans and the co2 in rocks, our air was let with nitrogen. O2 is a highly reacive molecule that is easily removed from the atmosphere by chemical reacions.
