Chapter 1: introduction to statistics and data analysis. The practice or science of collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities, especially for the purpose of inferring proportions in a whole from those in a representative sample. The extent to which an event is likely to occur, measured by the ratio of the favorable cases to the whole number of cases possible. Collections of all individuals or individual items of a particular type. A subset of a population; a collections of observations. Our class is a subset of all of the classes that have taken math 327. Implies that any particular sample of a specified sample size has the same chance of being selected as any other sample of the same size. Random selection of a sample within each stratum. The purpose is to be sure that each of the strata is neither over nor underrepresented.
