Sociological approach: not all change is harmful, only change that in undesirable, unscheduled, non-normative, and uncontrolled is harmful. Stressors may be initiated by other events as well as put an individual at greater risk for other stressors. Some events under some conditions are powerful stressors that affect people"s lives directly and indirectly. Influence of the socioeconomic context in an individual"s response to stressors: chronic stressors. Stressors can be categorized along several lines, most commonly based on the temporal course and origin. Secondary stressors are those stressors that result from the original stressor. Social resources: resources that exist by virtue or an individual"s membership in a system of social relationships. Social integration and social support: coping resources, characteristics of individuals that provide them with the skills to respond to stressors. Lowest levels between 2000 hours and 0200 hours: highest levels shortly after awakening. In absence of external stimuli, cortisol levels typically decrease throughout the day.
