JOUR 651 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Performance Measurement
Document Summary
If you were able to completely predict the world, organizations would be like perfect little machines with the same perfect and precise outcome every time. When measuring this extreme in this reality, there would be no need for measuring performance because it"s always perfect. However, life isn"t like that and neither is our world. Performance target perfections feel to confronting for people to commit to. On the other end, if the world had no order and couldn"t be predicted at all, organizations wouldn"t exist because the concept of one wouldn"t be possible. Control would be 0% and there would be no use in measuring performance because it would randomly very and we couldn"t measure causation patterns. But, our life and world isn"t like that! This is why you can"t drive decision from gut feeling/tradition/whim/hearsay. Measuring performance helps us quantify variation and observe causation patterns. We can learn how to influence performance with changing these kinds of patterns.
