Muscle types and functions: muscle mass accounts for nearly half of the body"s weight, kinds of muscular tissue, skeletal, cardiac, smooth, all types convert chemical energy of atp into the mechanical energy of motion. I ndirect attachment : tendons bridge the gap between muscle and bone: collagen fibers of the muscle continue to the periosteum and matrix of the bone. 1: direct attachment : little to no separation between muscle and bone making it a strong indirect connection, mid region of the muscle between tendons = belly. Insertion : attachment of the more mobile end of muscle and bone. A: origin : attachment site that"s bony and mostly stationary, muscle origin and insertion can change as the body moves differently depending on the bodily function. Prevents injury or overextending of some joints: fixator : muscle that prevents bone from moving. Holds bone steady while allowing another muscle attached to it to pull something else.
