The ability to read closely, examine critically, decide how or whether to accept or act on becomes a survival skill. Looking closely and methodically at something- a text, a process, a philosophy- helps you discover connections between ideas and think about how things work, what they mean, and why. Across media you do analysis as well. Your medium affects the way you present your analysis. You won"t always be able to choose, but when you do, you"ll want to choose the medium that enables you to most effectively make your point for the specific audience you are trying to reach. Analyzing something from (or for) beliefs, assumptions, and practices that we are not familiar with. Having respect for the principles, values, and beliefs of other means recognizing and respecting differences among cultures.
