They usoc & iaaf (international association of athletics federation) did their best to make it difficult for tommie smith and john carlos to qualify for the olympic team. Being placed in 8th lane and 1st lane (widest and sharpest lane) In the first week of october 1968, few days before the games a river of young blood in. Hundreds of students from the state university were massacred by the state military in mexico city"s tlatelolco square. Students have been protesting non-violently all year and confrontations with police were mild. All in the name by making mexico city presentable for an international audience.
