PSYC 3480 Chapter Notes - Chapter 13: Vaginal Discharge, Incest, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Document Summary
Women farmworkers are amongst the most vulnerable group of women to face sexual assault compared to other women. Women who work in traditionally-male oriented workplace settings are more likely to be harassed. Women do not often report cases of sexual harassment. Being sexually harassed can lead to the incidence of eating disorders, substance abuse, sleep disturbances, headaches, lowered self-confidence, feelings of being responsible for the attack, and reduced life satisfaction. Females are more likely to believe that sexual harassment is a serious issue. Many actions taken against the harasser do not apply until the harasser has been informed that his actions are unwanted. Employers are legally held accountable if an incidence of sexual harassment occurs to an employee if the authority is not aware. Rape falls under the umbrella of sexual assault. Most rape cases are conducted by acquaintances. Some regions in the states have a law stating that raping a relative is less severe than raping a stranger.
