Neurons, glia, brain regions, axon, synapse, neurotransmitter, receptors, dendrites, hormones, adrenal glands. Genes make people more prone to certain things. Schizophrenia may be related to exposure to viruses during childhood/before birth. 3 leading kinds are drug therapy, electroconvulsive therapy and psychosurgery. Psychotropic medications: drugs that primarily affect the brain + reduce many symptoms of mental dysfunctioning. Antianxiety drugs: psychotropic drugs that help reduce tension and anxiety, also called minor tranquilizers or anxiolytics. Antidepressant drugs: psychotropic drugs that improve the moods of people with depression. Antibipolar drugs: psychotropic drugs that help stabilize the moods of people suffering from a bipolar mood disorder, also called mood stabilizers.
