Document Summary
Freud"s (cid:373)o(cid:448)i(cid:374)g for(cid:272)e: psychic energy, accumulates in the id. It builds up when a need exists: satisfy need by using psychic energy to drive behaviour, ex. Hunger drives one to eat food: principle of constancy. Increased energy is aversive: nervous system functions to reduce stimuli, ex. Being hungry energy, eating energy: 4 characteristics of moving force, source bodily processes that activate moving force, pressure strength of force, aim satisfaction, object means of satisfying force, ex. Drive usually activated by a need but can be activated independent of need: assoc. with homeostasis, closely tied to needs, two assumptions. It energizes behaviour: behaviours that reduce the need state also reduce the drive state. Rat has to be hungry and know how to press the bar to do so: drive reduction model of learning, learning depends on adequate motivation, reinforcement occurs when drive is reduced.
