People behave in the way they are generally disposed to behave. Labels serve as organizing concepts that may explain person"s behaviour in variety of situations. Ancient hebrew believed if you knew someone"s type you could predict their behaviour. Theory of four temperaments: theory of personality proposed by hippocrates that predicts personality type by four humors (blood, black bile, yellow bile and phlegm) that correspond with the 4 elements. Roman physician galen: sanguine (hopeful), melancholic (sad), choleric (hot-tempered), or phlegmatic (apathetic) Extraversion: the personality dimension that differentiates people according to their tendency to be socially outgoing. Neuroticism: the personality dimension that includes a disposition toward unrealistic fear and emotional instability. No consensus among theorists + researchers as to the exact definitions of many technical terms. Domain: broad personality factor; sometimes called supertraits, domains each encompass a number of narrower traits or facets. Facet: narrow elemental personality features of which personality characteristics are compromised.
