Social identity the social definition of who you are your race, religion, culture, academic major etc. Implies, too, a definition of who you are not. Self-reference effect people"s tendency to better remember information when that information has been linked to the self: cocktail party phenomenon. The ability to pick a personally relevant stimulus (e. g. your name) out of a complex environment. Built-in network of association in our mind, these things are more easily attended to.
