Neural development: brain and ns consist of bunch of cells that work together and transmit electrical and chemical signals across many synapses (connective space between nerve cells). Female sex hormone produced by ovaries responsible for female sex maturation, testosterone male sex hormone produced by testes responsible for male sexual maturation. Enrichment theory (piaget) theory specifying that we must add sensory stimulation by drawing on stored knowledge to perceive a meaningful world ex. Ppl in radio contest call in after hearing few notes because they draw on memory to add to what they just heard and guess the song. Differentiation theory specifies that perception involves detecting distinctive features or cues contained in sensory stimulation we receive ex. Doggie when they see dog, cat, small furry animal, but they have not noticed critical diff in size, shape etc. to distinguish what it is. Hearing - soft sounds that adults can hear must be made louder for a neonate to detect them.
