Chapter 15 close relationships: closeness involves 6 components, knowledge, caring, interdependence, mutuality, trust and commitment. 60% mom should always be there: anxious-ambivalent attachment: clingy when mom is there, but still play with toys. They can"t calm down or play with the toys when mom is returned: avoidant attachment: not very affectionate towards mom. The anxious and avoidant attached adults were more likely to change styles over the 4 years. (in. 7 pairs of circles that represent how close is the relationship. Intimacy involves liking, sharing, knowing and emotional support of partner: only- close acquaintanceship or friendship, commitment is the extent to which the individual is invested in maintain the relationship, only- empty love. In collectivistic cultures, family considerations and opinion have a much stronger influence than they do in individualistic cultures in determining whom people decide to marry. In chinese culture: xiao (respect for and devotion to family) + guanxi (broader social interdependence) decision about intimate relationship.
