Intelligence has been defined as whatever intelligence tests measure, which has tended to be school smarts. Intelligence: mental quality consisting of the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, and use knowledge to adapt to new situations. Intelligence test: method for assessing an individuals" mental aptitudes + comparing them with those of others, using numerical scores. General intelligence: (g) a general intelligence factor that, according to spearman + others, underlies specific mental abilities + is therefore measured by every task on an intelligence test. Factor analysis: a statistical procedure that identifies clusters of related items on a test, used to identify different dimensions of performance that underlie a person"s total score. People score high in one area general scored well on others. General intelligence evolved as a form of intelligence that helps people solve novel problems (fire, floods) Evolutionary familiar situations marry + parenting, do not correlate with general intelligence.
