Chapter 1: textbook notes: the evolution of psychology. Psychology is the science of behavior and mind, embracing all aspects of conscious and unconscious experience as well as thought. It is an academic discipline and a social science which seeks to understand individuals and groups by establishing general principles and researching specific cases. Psychology: initially identified as the study of psychological disorders or abnormal psychology. Psychology contains; how people can perceive colour, how hunger is regulated by the brain, what causes bullying and aggression and how you can protect yourself, and a multitude of other topics. Children videotaped on the school playground during lunch. 300 bullying episodes identified in the 48 hours taping. Episodes involved verbal aggression 50%; physical aggression 29% and both 21%. Boys involved in bullying rate; double amount compared to girls. Aggressive reputations; not engaged in more bullying then those who were socially competent.
