Document Summary
Accommodation: lens is soft so it can change shape becomes rounder to see things close, and flatter to see things far. Far objects can focus in front of retina and appear blurry (nearsighted), or near objects can focus behind retina (farsighted) and appear blurry. Iris: colored ring of muscle surrounding pupil, regulates the amount of light that passes through pupil: pupil: opening in center of iris. Rod and cone cells (rods outnumbering cones) are along the back of the retina, only 10% of light entering cornea reaches it. Rods are rod shaped, and involved more in night and peripheral vision (more sensitive to light), at highest density just outside fovea and gradually decreases going outwards. Cones are stubbier than rods, and involved more in daytime/color vision, are less sensitive to light but can provide more visual acuity (sharpness and most precise).
