Module 21: basic learning concepts & classical conditioning. How do we learn? (conditioning [associative learning] & cognitive) Learning: process of acquiring new info or behaviours through experience. Associative learning: learning that two events occur together, also called conditioning two main forms are classical conditioning (associate two stimuli and expect an event) & operant conditioning (repeat/avoid acts that bring rewards/ unwanted results). Stimulus: event or situation that triggers a response. (thunder) Respondent behaviour: automatic response to stimuli (fear from the thunder stimuli) - Operant behaviour: behaviour that operates on the environment, producing results. (being polite is an operant behaviour that operates on the environment for you to get a cookie or reward in return) - for operant conditioning. Cognitive learning: mental information that guides our behavior. learning from observing events, others, or through language. A: habits form when we repeat behaviours and learn associations.
