PHIL 2130 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4.6: Viral Matrix Protein, Post-Translational Modification, Fibrillin
Ordinary Connective Tissue and Cartilage
Connective Tissue:
- Produce cell products mostly called matrix, few cells
- Matrix = protein fibres (collagen fibres + elastic fibres) + ground substance
(organic compound + tissue fluid)
➔ Organic compound include proteoglycans and adhesive glycoproteins
- CT proper (ordinary CT), cartilage, and bone
- Specialization: fibro, chondro, osteo
Collagen Fibres
- Inelastic, great tensile strength, more than twenty types based alpha chains AA
sequence
- Multistep
a) Preprocollagen – alpha chains synthesized in RER
b) Procollagen – post translational regulation of precollagen into procollagen
with REGISTRATION PEPTIDE on both N and C terminal, transferred to golgi,
more post translational modification
c) Tropocollagen – triple helix, 2 A1 and 1 A2 chain, exocytosis, registration
peptide removed, form insoluble tropocollagen
d) Fibrils – aggregation of tropocollagen, cross-link, reinforce fibrilar structure
e) Fibres – make up fibrils
- Arranged in this manner:
