The project network is a tool for planning, scheduling and monitor project progress. Its developed from the information collected for the wbs and is a graphic flow chart of the project job plan. Depicts: activities to complete, logical sequences, activity interdependencies, times to start and finish, the longest path(s) through the network (critical path) Used by pm"s to make decisions about project time, cost, and performance. Wbs and the network: both use wps as their building blocks, wbs groups work packages into cost accounts, network groups work packages into activities. Project network: visual flow diagram of the sequence, interrelationships, and dependencies of all activities that must be accomplished to complete the project. Activity: an element in the project that consumes time (whether work or waiting) Networks are built using nodes (boxes) and arrows (lines: nodes = activity, arrows = dependency and project flow.
