51 views1 pages

Document Summary

This chapter discusses the relationship of socio-economic status in relation to health inequality. There are studies that have been conducted in order to analyze theories that suggest the relationship between poor health and socio economic status. Although the canadian health care system provides free healthcare, much of the problem is the rising health issues that are preventable. Being in poverty does not condone poor health but vice-versa. Living conditions is a factor/variable in the quality of health, but when it comes down to having good income and benefits is where the assessment can be evaluated. If a person with poor income falls ill there are no benefits that cover that sick person for additional costs etc. Socio-economic inequality results in the differential distribution of health-enhancing and life-extending resources that include: income, education, and social connection among individuals in society.
