Document Summary
Lymphatic system: its main task is to return fluids that have leaked from the blood vascular system and get them back to the blood. Lymph nodes, cleans the fluid (lymph) as it passes through the vessels. Organs and tissue contain phagocytic cells and lymphocytes that help the immune system in its defense mechanism as well for its resistance to disease. Other lymphoid tissues scattered throughout the body. Nutrients, wastes and gases are exchanged between the blood and interstitial fluid. The hydrostatic and colloid osmotic pressures force the fluid out of the blood, as result it cause most of it to be reabsorbed at the venous end. What is left of the fluid becomes interstitial fluid. Since some leaked fluid such as plasma protein has to be returned to the blood by the use of drainage vessels that collect the excess protein and then sending it back to the bloodstream.
