Document Summary
Central processor describes how powerful the computer is: 3. 2 ghz tells how fast the processor is. G is for giga which is 109. Hz is for hertz, unit of frequency equal to one cycle per second. Therefore 3,200,000,000 cycles per second (faster is better) Random access memory (ram: 512mb or 512 x 220 bytes, sdram is synchronized dynamic random access memory, ram allows access to any byte of memory instead of going in order. Increased processor does not mean better performance in tasks as long as the machine has sufficient memory. More memory, less powerful the processor needs to be. Monitor: 17 is the diagonal measurement of the screen, dp (dot pitch) refers to distance between dots on the screen (smaller is better) Dvd-rom stands for digital versatile disk, read only-memory: read only means cannot change any info on disk. R/rw stands for record and read/write: allows you to burn own dvds and cds.
