Presentations are regarded as an important aspect of the research process because they often represent the leading edge of knowledge. Presentations provide the researcher with an opportunity to receive feedback from colleagues and to address issues at a time when suggestions or modifications may be incorporated into current work. The main disadvantages of presentations are a limited audience and permanence. The permanence limitation refers to the fact that most presentations do not result in a permanent and detailed record of the research. A poster represents the middle ground between a presentation and a written report. During a poster presentation session, several researchers simultaneously display a brief written account of their work in a poster format. Written reports provide a third forum for disseminating research findings.
