In 1994 comissions on systemic racism in the cjs found that 3out of 4 blacks were certain that police treated them wrose than whites and 56% of whites reported they thought visible minorities were treated worse by the police. Race refers to ppl who share observable physical traits such as chinese or. Ethnicit refers to idenetity or means by which a group of people distinguish themselves. Often race is presumed to be biologican because its origin is usually related to something unchangeable like skin colour, while ethnicit is deemed cultural. In canadian society, racial hierchies and ethnic divisions structure our lives in a way that"s more visible for groups marginalized by their ethnicity. The other side of marginalization is privilege, or the way that racial and social hierarchies structure the lives of dominant goruops to their benefit. These hierarchies and distincions are produced and maintained by power diffenetials between dominant racialized and ethnic groups and subordinate ones.
