Document Summary

It is an approach to reading, thinking and learning that involves asking questions, examining our assumptions and weighing the validity of arguments. It is a set of strategies that we will use as we determine whether to believe what we read or hear. The critical thinkers are self-aware, curious and independent so they can work at knowing their own biases and can name the strategies they are using when they make judgements. Critical thinkers explore beneath the surface of issues by challenging ideas that seem to be obvious and try seeking new approaches and new viewpoints to greaten their knowledge. Most would think the word critical means negative or judgmental however, it means to question, analyze or make sense of something. Critical thinkers are seen to assess the truth about a specific manner. Sometimes, critical thinking can reject a conclusion or accept an idea as valid but we should remember to focus the issue to careful thought.
