Document Summary

Sy 101 chapter 20 challenges to the global environment. Environmental sociology is the study of the interaction between human society and the physical environment. 1970s saw widespread public interest in the environmental issues of the day, which included nuclear safety and radioactive waste, air pollution, and growth of urban landfills. Environmental sociologists also began to connect with ecologists and the field of ecology which is the study of how living organisms interact with the nviron, ment. Ecosystem is a community of plants, animals and smaller organisms that live, feed, reproduce, and interact in the same area which can be as large as canadian prairies or as small as a pond. In an ecosystem, organisms are interdependent, exist in an elaborate network of interactions. Environmental sociologists apply these biological insights to enhance their own understanding of the relationship between human society and the physical environment.
