Document Summary

Everything you are thinking about right now! Moment to moment awareness of ourselves and environment. Stream of consciousness: a continuing flow of changing thoughts (james william) Neurons that work together (networks) become active at once. Conscious awareness helped in survival = contribute to evolutionary progress. Inattentional blindness: failure to notice things around us to which we are not paying attention. Blind sight: being unaware of what has reached our attention. There are different states of consciousness levels of awareness: focused attention, automatic processes (eating) & daydreaming, unconscious mind. Preconsciousness- level of awareness in which information can become readily available to consciousness if necessary (aka automatic behaviours) Unconscious term comes from freud information not easily accessible to conscious awareness. Nonconscious ideas are not pushed down things we are not actively aware (e. g. , cognitive processes such as remember or digestive processes-stuff you can recall again) Vast majority of personal knowledge is located in our unconsciousness, thus not readily accessible.
