Document Summary

Assessment: psychological assessment, a systematic gathering and evaluation of information pertaining to an individual with suspected abnormal behaviour. This assessment can be carried out with a wide variety of techniques to appraise social, psychological and/or biological factors: good diagnosis hinges on the development of accurate assessment tools. Reliability and validity: test-retest reliability refers to the degree to which a test yields the same results when it is given more than once to the same person. For example, the construct of depression includes features such as lack of energy, sadness, and negative self-perception. This type of validity is especially useful when the construct to be measured is rather abstract. For example, self-esteem is considered important for success in many endeavours. To evaluate how well a measure assess self-esteem, we would look to a theory for a predication and see whether the measure correlates well with that prediction.
