In picking research methods, descriptive research methods are often used to allow researchers to demonstrate a relationship between variables of interest, without specifying causal relationship. Naturalistic and laboratory observations: playground versus big brother, in laboratory observations: can control certain variables, naturalistic observation is a no (ethical reasons) need consent from child & parent. Chapter 2 & appendix b: disadvantages: observer bias and the hawthorne effect (act better when watched)
