Neural connection between the hypothalamus and posterior pituitary. Gland (ppg: there are nerve cells (neurons) that connect the 2 structures, paraventricular nucleus (pvn) Adh (vasopressin) synthesized in neurons that originate there: supraoptic nucleus. Oxytocin synthesized in neurons that originate there: after synthesis, hormones go in vesicles and travel down the neuron to the axon terminal located in the posterior pituitary gland. Released through exocytosis when the neurons receive a signal. Released into blood: hormones called neurohormones because they are secreted by neurons and not endocrine glands.
