Chapter 3: using the internet: making the most of the web"s resources. Internet: the largest computer network in the world. Internet is a network of networks through other devices connecing to the internet. A computer connected to the internet acts in one of two ways: client: asks for data, server: receives the request and returns the data to the client, internet is referred to as a client/server network. The transmission lines with the fastest speeds are referred to as internet backbones. Internet protocol (ip) address: unique id number that consists of four groups of numbers separated by periods. Web 2. 0: classiied as social web new collaboraive, user-created web content. E-mail: remains the most widely used form of communicaion. Social networking: using the web to communicate and share informaion. Used for businesses in order to network (linkedin) Primary method of electronic communicaion because it"s fast and convenient. Asynchronous users do not need to be communicaing at the same ime.
