Document Summary

Once a pool of suitable applicants is created through recruiting, the process of selecting applicants begins. Selection process: series of steps taken to decide which recruits should be hired. Generally, recruiting and selection are combined and known as employment function, or recruiting: employment is closely associated with the tasks and duties of the hr department. The selection criteria should reflect the job duties, specifications, and performance standards. The selection strategy should adapt to labour market realities. Companies should not focus on simplifying the selection process through computerization as it may come at the cost of lower effectiveness of employees: computerized selection processes ignore factors such as attitudes, personality and other human characteristics. The order, importance, and sequence of steps may be altered depending on the organization at hand, and the constraints they face. In general, if an applicant fails at a step, they do not advance to the next step.
