Document Summary

Life history of organism: changes in organism experience b/w birth & death: portion of resources influence evo of maintenance, growth & reproductive traits. Usually adjusted to maximize ind # of surviving offspring influences by physical & ecological envio: development rate, age of sexual maturity/first reproduction, # of offspring/freq of breeding, level of parental investment, and death. Species differ in way they grow & reproduce: species like fish & trees grow until they die, while birds & mammals grow till adult stage, amphibians, insects go through transitions from larva. Metamorphosis: plants grow in developmental stages, unicellular org. , plants, animals (hermaphroditic- switch from male to female) reproduce asexually. Evolution of life history strategies: little advantage for organism to withhold some resources to reproduce at later time, instead it should invest all energy into single reproductive event. Few offspring = invest considerable time in energy in each. More offspring = invest little in each one.
